The Old House and the Sea

One more thing before the weekend...Have you seen this jaw-dropping 103-year-old house in Rhode Island? The sweet old man who owns it restored it beautifully. Look at those views! See the full slideshow here.

Have a nice weekend.

Have a wonderful long weekend! Any fun plans, my sweets? I'm going to see my mom and twin sister and can't wait to give them giant bear hugs. Here are some great posts from the web this week...

David Byrne's bike stands come to New York.

Cute pups.

Genius video of people singing.

Loving this vintage plaid cape coat for fall.

An 8-year-old's rad Chinese-themed birthday party.

Paige makes us LOL.

Hollister went on a road trip and bought amazing things.

My twin sis would love these feather headbands (for British weddings) and these alpaca hats (for cool California nights).

How to be a good client and how to be a good intern. I want to give these to everyone I ever work with (and myself).

And, of course, the Glamour blogs :) xoxo

Fall Fashion Musings...

Hmmm, what are your thoughts on hats? My head is too giant to usually wear them (seriously, I wear a men's large baseball cap), but I'm kind of into this look...

Rosy cheeks + leg warmers = all good.

Tattoo of a buxom lady

Tattoo of a buxom lady

Canadian magazine editor and tattoo enthusiast. Lane apparently also loves the ladies and decided to have "a tattoo of a buxom lady" etched on his shin.

My Glamour Blog Is Up!

At long last, I'm excited to say that my Glamour relationships blog Smitten is finally live! Please feel free to link to it, if you'd like. (I would be so happy and eternally grateful.)

Thank you again for your lovely support this week! You are all so wonderful and have helped my butterflies calm down (at least a little).

(P.S. Cup of Jo will get back to regular programming this Friday. xo)

Krisatomic's Ebay Shop.

Remember Krisatomic, the Londoner with the amazing wardrobe? Well, she just opened an ebay shop, full of bags, dresses and shoes. Oh, if only my giant feet were a size 7! (Update: The shoes are actually a US size 9 -- any takers?)

(Note: The clothes are in UK sizes.)

My News: Glamour Magazine

My dolls, you are all so lovely and supportive and wonderful! Thank you again for being so enthusiastic about my long-awaited news. I hope it isn't totally boring compared to your guesses of my getting married, having a baby and joining the Today Show. (That would be awesome.)

So, I'm excited to tell you that I'm the new relationships blogger for Glamour Magazine. My blog, Smitten, will cover relationships, dating, sex, travel, food, culture and lifestyle. I'll be posting 8 times a day (whew), and there are some really funny series in the works.

Glamour's new website will launch tomorrow (a day later than planned) -- I'll let you know when it goes up.

Thank you so much, my lovelies! Joannaxo
* Hopefully someday soon I'll have those announcements, too.

Man on Wire

Last night, we saw Man on Wire, a documentary about a French tightrope walker, and it blew my mind with both its style (their 1970's clothes were fantastic, and the reenactments felt very film noir) and gripping suspense. You have to see if it's playing near you. It's amazing.

Love.

Gorgeous smile from Stockholm.
P.S. I can tell you my news tomorrow!

Lasso Coat Stand

Awesome. I love this coat stand for cowboys at heart. P.S. This is also super rad.

Tattoo "excessive body art"

tattoo
Over the past six months, tattoo restrictions have been imposed on at least a dozen police departments around the country, and the Marine Corps placed a ban on "excessive body art" for new recruits . Oddly, the crackdown is occurring at a time when large, excessive tattoos are more popular than ever.

One Phone Call, Shaq Will Have Your Body Dumped in Marshes

CUDDLY EGOMANIAC GETS RESTRAINING ORDER PLACE UPON HIM BY MARYJANE, A 23-YEAR-OLD RAP ARTISTS FROM ATLANTA

Continuing the trend of NBA news being so hilarious that it's difficult to make fun of, the Big Stock Exchange was served with a Big Restraining Order.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Richard Hicks granted Alexis Miller's request Thursday after reviewing her allegations that the basketball player stalked her, threatened her with bodily harm and made harassing phone calls in which he breathed heavily into the phone before hanging up.

Miller, a 23-year-old hip-hop artist known professionally as Maryjane, claimed she ended an intimate relationship with O'Neal last month. She alleged he then threatened to pay performers $50,000 each not to work with her.

If you were wishing you could read one of O'Neal's threatening text messages, the basketball gods will deliver you no small miracle:
The court affidavit quotes an e-mail from O'Neal as saying, "I dnt no who the [expletive] u think u dealin wit u will neva be heard from one phone call is I gotta make now try me. Sho me."

One phone call and KAZAAM! While I would bet that legions of Maryjane's fans would miss her and her ever-so-creative rapper nickname, not to mention her son, who is hilariously pointed out in the article not to be Shaq's bastard child. I hope this latest escapade will finally dump into the marsh the idea that Shaq is an intelligent human being. Threatening to kill somebody is one thing. Sending an easily traceable text message to a heavily represented rap star is another thing altogether. The Big Aristotle nickname should be removed immediately.

Have a smoochy weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend, my dears. Congratulations to the lovely Lina, who is getting married this weekend! I'm so excited to be one of her adoring bridesmaids.

Also, here are some great posts from around the web this week....

What a fun birthday cake pan.

Michael Phelps eats tons.

Who knew weeds could be so beautiful? Also, stars.

The Sartorialist for regular people.

Charlotte Gainsbourg also looks pretty with short hair.

This photo reminds me of last weekend.

Here are 10 trends for fall. Can't wait for sweater season!

Small talk with a web designer. (Guilty as charged.)

Wise words from Mr. Albert Einstein.

Happy Days are Here Again

Ladies and Gentlemen. Say hello to the newest Celtic:

That's right. Darius. Miles. Celtic. Believe That.

In closing, a new picture of the official vehicle of the World Champion Boston Celtics. Yes, that is D-Miles actual car. Holy Hell I can't wait for this season to start:

Exercise with John Travolta

Um, what? This John Travolta work-out book is the coolest thing I've ever seen. He teaches you how to stay fit through modern dance, and I love his super-intense gaze. Of course the copyright is 1984.

Fashion Inspiration

I wish I dressed like this every day.

Summer Postcards.

Have you seen Mav's summer postcards? She took them on a rainy weekend in Maine.

3-D Business Cards

Speaking of business cards, graphic-design student Emerson Taymor had this brilliant idea. I'd hire him, wouldn't you? (Via BBlinks)

Finally! Affordable Calling Cards.

Great news: The Mandate Press just launched a new line of letterpress business cards. They offer seven elegant styles (or design your own), and you get 250 cards for $90. (For those who haven't ordered business cards before, that is MAD CHEAP.) Thank you, Mandate!

Revolutionary Tattoo Surgery

Frontman and fashion trend setter revealed this week to Brittish Vogue that his tattoos no longer fit his lifestyle and so he is trying a revolutionary new tattoo removal procedure, which involves applying replicated skin over old body art.

Salt & Pepper

When I was little, I hated pepper. My dad would always pepper the soup before serving it and I'd find it way too spicy, while my sister and brother lapped it up. But I think I've grown into it! Maybe pepper is one of those acquired tastes, like avocados, smoked fish and beer. Anyway, here are three charming salt & pepper shakers from (guess where?) etsy!

Vintage owl salt & pepper shakers.

Vintage brass salt & pepper shakers.

Vintage birds salt & pepper shaker.

New Jersey Snapshots

Alex and I escaped from the city this weekend to relax at the Jersey shore. We stayed at this lovely B&B and swam in the ocean, read books on the porch and ate chicken sandwiches with fries. Alex body-surfed but I was a wuss about the waves and only went up to my knees. Overall, the beach was gorgeous and everyone was really friendly. We even met a dude with a pet parrot!
