Grace Sun, I love you.

Oh, I am so in love with the fall/winter collection from Grace Sun. Deep colors, rich layers, pretty fabrics. They would be the perfect clothes to wear in Michigan to a cider mill and then out to dinner. Sweetly, Michelle said this is her version of an Annie Hall look.
P.S. The model is also my perfect girl-crush type....

Shameless Request for Bene's Blog

Bene Magazine (where I work) has a new blog. Would any of you friendly bloggers like to add a link to it? It is a nice little blog and tells you fun Italy-related things. It is trying hard to make new friends. Your support would be very much appreciated!

Hanging Art

Here on Cup of Jo, I'm a big fan of art but don't know how to hang it. So I was really excited to see Victoria's post about her pretty collection of prints. I liked this, this and especially this. Thanks, Victoria!

Nick Love

Hmmm, what other things does Nick love?

Nick loves sailing with SW.

Nick loves Lucy.

Nick loves coffee (or does he?).

Nick loves the ladies.

And Nick loves Nick! Thanks for being this week's theme, little bro; it's fun pretending to be you. You are the best!

Nick is environment friendly.

Amazingly, I had just written this post when Nick commented that trees look like lungs--now this poster seems extra suitable! The print says, "Forests are the lungs of the earth," and all proceeds go to the Rainforest Action Network.

Nick grows beards.

When we were little, Nick admitted to Lucy and me that he never washed his body. "I just figure the shampoo kind of drips down," he told us, unphased. Fifteen years later, he has thankfully turned into a bit more of a metrosexual. He likes to use a straight razor, as terrifying as that sounds; and for his birthday, I got him a haircut and shave from Freemans Sporting Club. I think he'd enjoy these products from Sharps Barber. P.S. He can also grow a mean beard. Here are four shots of Nick rocking varying stages of caveman style.

Nick grew up in the suburbs.

My brother Nick and I now live in New York City, but we grew up in the Michigan suburbs. I thought he might enjoy Amy Bennett's awesome oil paintings of neighborhoods where something doesn't feel quite right.....(These are entitled "Exposure" and "Losing It.")

Nick will buy necklaces for his future wife.

Although Nick rides motorcycles and belongs to a watch club, he is also a true romantic. I can imagine Nick giving this necklace to his future wife. Linked to a battery by a silver thread, this glowing necklace would surely delight the kind of quirky lovable girl that Nick will betroth.

Nick gets telegrams.

When we were little, we were spending the summer in Cornwall, so my dad sent Nick a telegram for his birthday. It was so exciting and old-fashioned! Now telegrams have been officially discontinued, but perhaps Nick would like this stationery, inspired by a 1920s British telegram.

Nick is as tall as treetops.

Nick loves the environment. In fact, last summer, he rode from Connecticut to North Carolina to see how many miles he could ride on the same amount of caloric energy as one gallon of gas. (Answer? A lot!)

So you have a guy who likes trees and can see the tops of them. Let's view the world like Nick does, with this Topiaires series by Sophie Rusniok. (Via I Heart Photograph)

Nick looks good in Euro clothes.

He would look especially dashing in the first two ensembles in APC's new fall/winter collection, don't you think, ladies?

Happy birthday, Nick!

This week of posts is dedicated to my little brother, Nick, who turns 25 today! He has a quirky sense of humor and a great appreciation of the way things work. He especially enjoys watches, biking, environmental friendliness, traveling, European style and cool ladies.

This week, we will get inside Nick's head and see what it's like to be him. I will choose photography and design that I think he'd like. Nick can let me know how well I do, and Sarah Wilson will hopefully weigh in, too, since she often knows Nick better than he knows himself.

Happy birthday, Nick! You are the best little brother ever!

Paint by Numbers

I just wrote about this poster for Cookie. It's meant for babes, but I secretly think it would look nice on a grown-up mantle...

Fruit Fly: Busted!

My lovely sister Lucy and her new husband Paul recently moved to San Carlos, a little Californian town with no worries or cares. Seriously. Here's an excerpt from yesterday's town newsletter...

Fruit Fly Spotted In San Carlos
=====================
In late June, the City received a phone call from the San Mateo County
Department of Agriculture. The County department informed us that an
Oriental Fruit Fly had been obtained on Prospect Street.

The County says that there is no cause for alarm as sightings of the
fruit fly during this time of year have occurred in the past. The
County Agriculture Department will be setting traps to prevent an
infestation.

Eames Love

Lately my Eames love affair has reached a whole new level because of the absolutely lovely pics out there of their timeless designs. For example, here are some gorgeous photos from Ta in Tokyo. That light! Those stockings! The cat! Thanks for this awesomeness, Ta.

Home Sweet Home

I love love love the home of blogger Courtney Russell. She pretty much handmade both her children's gorgeous nurseries. I just did a Cookie interview with her and found her lovely and insightful -- if you'd like, read more here!

British Candy Is Way Better. (Now That's a Fact.)

The New York Times revealed an important truth today. (We Brits have known it for years.) Boo yeah.

Cruise Away

Calvin Klein's 2007 cruise collection brings together bright, blocky color and clean, basic shapes. As they'd say on Project Runway, his collection has a definite "point of view." I'm too much of a claustrophobe to take a cruise (those tiny interior rooms! eeks!), but I'd love to wear these on dry land.

Mon-kay

I love this monkey! Designed in Denmark in 1951, he became a mascot on nature programs and a prize on quiz shows. My friend Lee, from Denmark, told me, "Yes, I know that monkey and like him very much. The designer Kay Bojesen was very popular when my grandparents were young; my favorite toy of his is the puffin. Most Danes people will remember meeting Bojesen's wooden friends."

Dad Comes to Visit

Our dad came to visit two weekends ago. We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, sailed at night and ate ice-cream sandwiches the size of our heads. The photo above was taken in Dumbo--the wall looked like the kind of place a band would take press photos, so we took some "band" shots. The photo below shows Alex being sweet after sailing. If you'd like, see more weekend pics here. Thanks for visiting, Dad!
