Jazz Age Lawn Party

This weekend, Alex, Toby and I took the ferry over to the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor's Island.
A jazz band played old-timey tunes, and there was a tug-of-war, pie contest and Charleston lessons.
People dressed up in fabulous 1920's ensembles--lots of pearls, suspenders and straw hats. (I, of course, wore a nursing shirt:)
Toby mingled with the dapper crowd.
And this girl wore the most fabulous swimsuit (which she had made herself). Yowza!

Whatever your opinion of the music The Beatles made, I reckon there's no denying they had some great Album Sleeve designs - remember this is the 1960's and  maybe the high point of  Sleeve design - the 12" format allowing for rather more input that a CD Cover (actually the last one tipped into the 70's, and is the worst of them). Superstitious much?

Not too l o n g ago
(to be freakin exact- 2 w e e k s ago) was Friday the 13th. Now I didn’t mention anything about it on the actual flippin day, becasuse I am a super duper freak about superstitious shit.

You know the main ones, that bother most superstitious people.


-Friday the 13th; BAD, BAD, BAD
-Black cats crossing your path; I will drive on the freakin curb to avoid them walking in front of my car.
-Opening an umbrella in the house; Never gonna happen
-Walking under a ladder; I don’t even own a freakin ladder.
-Breaking a mirror; This one can be a problem, I like to look in the mirror. You know to get ready. So I am extra careful with mirrors.
-Spilling salt; not a problem, I never use the stuff.
-Bad things travel in threes (3); can't seem to be avoided.


So I didn’t want to jinx myself that day so I didn’t mention it. I was already worried that something bad would happen.


However this last week, I finally got my “BAD”.


To start off with, my daughters car shot craps, that cost for that was over $400. Then two days later my sportsmans car had issues, that cost $180. Then after HONDA screwed, me and I do mean literally.


All I can say was there was a disagreement, and not having them do the work on my freakin car, (that they should of done for fucking FREE)they stuck a screw in my fucking tire.


Of course I can’t prove this 100% , but that is how it went down. So because of this and the fact that my tires after only 40,000 miles are freakin bald(Dunlaps people dont buy them) I had to spend another $400 on new damn tires.


Yes, people all this shit in just two short weeks. WTF? I am not made of money!!!!!!! Ok, the sportsman is not made of money. You know how he feels about unecessary spending.


This shit put him thru the fucking roof.


So it’s offical. That is my THREE freakin things. No more bad shit please. The sportsmans wallet can’t afford it.



So is there anyone else out there that is as superstitious as ME?

Paris Hilton arrested in Las Vegas on the rights of possession of cocaine

Everyone knows that Paris Hilton is a cocaine addict, right? Well, now everyone knows. Paris Hilton was arrested last night for possession of cocaine. It was in Las Vegas, traveling in a car from a friend when the car was by the police in Las Vegas driven stopped. The police had warned that the car was a trail of smoke, "the name that people had the car speakers, I think it means.

Motel Postcards

The third and final part of my look at the nostalgic era of American Motels features American linen postcards. Linen postcards are easily identifiable by the type of high rag card stock they were printed on which was produced with a linen finish; a textured pattern distinguished by parallel and intersecting lines resembling linen cloth. The face of the card was the textured side and the reverse was smooth just like other postcards.
Due to the use of this paper, linen postcards could be printed with brighter inks creating brightly coloured images, making them a huge advancement over the earlier white border postcards. Linen postcards' heyday was from the 1930's when they were introduced to about 1945.
I have quite a collection of these linen postcards mainly featuring town views, ‘important’ buildings, and factories. I believe they are mainly heavily retouched black & white photographs, rendered in vibrant colours. This retouching gives then a unique look.
