Valentines Gifts: Girls

Yesterday, my brother's best friend Sarah Wilson made us a Southern brunch, complete with eggs, sausage and cheesy grits. Mmmm.... After stuffing ourselves silly, we got on the subject of gifts, and the boys were saying how hard it can be to think of them. I was surprised -- girls love everything! Here are some ideas if you're stuck....

    Sexy but sweet ruffled underwear.

    The hilarious Optic Nerve comics.

    A cheese-of-the-month club.

    A pretty ring.

A robe that's cozy and flattering.

A romantic adventure at a design B&B in the Catskills.

Valentines Gifts: Guys

The men in my life love cars. When I was little, I'd sit in my dad's lap when he watched the Grand Prix and he would tilt from side to side as the cars curved around the track. As I grew up, my brother and dad would drag us to car shows and races. And even today, they'll stop the car in a parking lot if a Porsche or Jaguar drives by, roll down the window, and tell us to be quiet. "Listen," they'll whisper. "Isn't that magnificent?"

Inspired by my favorite car enthusiasts, I present a few Valentine's gift ideas for men....

    Le Mans tie
The design of this tie reflects the track of the Le Mans race in France. $45

    Rendezvous DVD
This 9-minute film is car porn. Early in the morning, a man gets into a Ferrari and drives at terrifying speeds around Paris. After tearing through red lights and screeching around corners, he stops the car and meets a beautiful woman. The 1970s film is taken from the driver's viewpoint; the director Claude Lelouch was rumoured to have been arrested when it first aired. Trust me, you will be the coolest girlfriend ever for tracking this down. About $20

    Ferrari drawings
Tennessee-based illustrator James Noel Smith loves Ferraris. He draws gorgeous illustrations of them, with notes about each car and its history. Prices vary.

    Intersection Magazine
A British car magazine for men who love cars and fashion. $9.99 (year subscription)

    The Manometro
Designer Giuliano Mazzuoli turned the look of a tire pressure gauge into this striking watch. $2,800

Lingerie Ladies

This Valentines-y polaroid was taken by Matt from PolaroiDiary. He took this out of his office window when he had to work on a Saturday. He says: "Directly across from my window is a photographer’s studio, and they were shooting for a lingerie catalogue…What I love about this polaroid is the left window. That is a real model, but the way she was posed at that exact second, she looks like a mannequin."Source URL: http://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/search/label/valentines%202007
