Harold & Maude

    I'm in a posty mood today. Maybe it's because I'm so excited for tonight: Alex and I are going to see Harold and Maude, one of my all-time favorite movies, at Lincoln Center. The film is hilarious, goofy, wonderful...Plus, Cat Stevens did the soundtrack!Source URL: http://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/search/label/valentines%202008

My Sexy Valentine

Love slang

    My friends have developed relationship slang over the years. A few of my favorite (and most frequently used) terms are:

    * a deep & meaningful = a serious talk about the relationship's future.
    * the slow fade = letting a relationship die out by slowly stopping contact, versus having a talk about it.
    * the long, dirty road = breaking up but continuing to sleep together.

    What relationships slang do you have, dear readers?

Hotel Chevalier, Break Ups, British Songs.

    Have you seen Hotel Chevalier, the 13-minute short film that proceeded Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited? Starring Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman, the sexy film reveals the heartbreak after a breakup when you clearly still love each other and feel so intimate together, but you know you can't be together. It really resonated with me. Also, it's set in Paris.

    Of course, Wes Anderson is a soundtrack genius, so the song in the movie is also amazing: the 1969 UK hit "Where Do You Go To My Lovely" by Peter Sarstedt. Listen:

Lolita

    Have you ever read Lolita? I waited a long time to read it because the thought of an older man seducing a young girl upset me. But finally I went for it, and lo and behold, I loved it. The writing is gorgeous, the plot compelling and the characters hilarious and vivid. And even though you hate Humbert Humbert, the narrator, it's fascinating to see inside his mind.

    This photo by Gisela Flic is EXACTLY how I envisioned Lolita. I gasped when I stumbled across it.

    Here's a typical Lolita ensemble:

    and denim button-up shorts.Source URL: http://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/search/label/valentines%202008

A tiny love note.

    I have to write a little love note. This weekend, I got food poisoning and was a complete mess. But despite my sunken eyes and ashen skin, Alex took such good care of me. He rubbed my back, did an awesome dance, brought me saltines and ice chips, sat very very still on the bed (as requested) and read me "A Diamond as Big as the Ritz" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Although I was moaning through most of it, I felt so grateful. I love you, Alexei. You are my hero! (P.S. This is cute.)
