Daydreaming

At the start of this beautiful weekend, I hurt my foot, and the doctor ordered me to sit inside with my leg up for both days. It was such a bummer! On the bright side, I finally had time to read the entire Domino book, and a couple friends came over on Saturday night to play games. (I had to wear a giant orthopedic sandal. Nothing cooler than a limping pregnant woman, let me tell you.) Anyway, hope you all had great weekends, and, to kick off a new week, here are a few images I thought you might like...
Lovely San Francisco.
Lavender lemonade.
Julia Rothman's amazing New York subway poster.
This gorgeous bedroom is actually in an English hotel. I adore the black-and-white photograph in a white frame. It makes me want to shop for a fine-art photo (or frame pages of a book).

Lipstick on your wine glass

Did you know this little Gourmet-esque tip? If you're drinking wine at dinner, and don't want to get lipstick on your glass (which both looks icky and removes your color), here's a trick: Simply lick the edge of the glass quickly right before you take a sip. Voila!

Red lipstick

Red lipstick is like magic: I love how it instantly transforms the most basic ensemble. At the Prada Spring 2010 show, red lipstick even made pigtails--pigtails!--look impossibly chic. Are you brave enough to try this look? (I'm going on a plane tomorrow and might just do it!)

We had a party

My boyfriend Alex writes for the New York Times, but the only parts I usually witness are his late nights and requests for tummy rubs. But then he came home a few weeks ago and said he was writing a story about throwing a holiday party on a tight budget--with the help of uber-famous event planner David Monn! And the party was to be at our apartment! It was totally exciting.

I loved tagging along for this article. We had a dinner party with (cheap but delicious) twice-baked potatoes amid glittery snowflakes. The coolest part? Monn put down a white tablecloth, put a bunch of white Christmas lights in the middle and then covered it with white quilt batting. The table glowed!

See Alex's story here and his fun slideshow here. Thank you, Alex! xoxoSource URL: https://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/search/label/drinks

Recession Wine

Have you seen this hilarious new wine? Recession Wine Company in California makes a Recession White and Recession Red, each for $6.99. The labels are so cute and cartoony! The company seems impossible to google, but you can get the wines at most local wine shops. What a brilliant idea.

What's your hangover cure?

Um, help. Last night, Alex and I had some friends over to watch the election. We celebrated Obama's win with sparkling wine and now my head still hurts. What are your hangover remedies? Does anything actually work? When we went to brunch recently, Jennifer Ward and her husband ordered giant Bloody Marys with V8. Hmmm, maybe a good idea right about now...Source URL: https://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/search/label/drinks

Best of Last Week

A silver lining about returning from a trip is catching up on all the blogs and magazines. Last week was pretty high-brow: Did you see the mysterious house on Fifth Avenue, the vintage silverware that Abbey bought at an auction (la di da!) and these funny wine tags?
