Last week in school

I will be going home in two weeks. Yay~~! I'm so excited to see my families, and I will continue to work on my art in China -- there are life drawing classes everywhere which are also cheap. I don't like the instructions though, but it's not bad to just drop in and draw stuff!
I went life drawing yesterday and today. Maybe having too much fun...

School is very important. Just look at what I did before entering this school, and what I do now, it's easy to tell that education really can change something, and it's not just me. I can see great progress in everyone's work. We get inspired by looking at each other's stuff, so we can work harder. That's how people get improved.

Old painting (from imagination. I didn't know how to use oils at that time. No clue at all. )

New painting (from life. Acrylics. 3 hours)Source URL: https://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/search/label/painting

Portraits

Every now and again, I go through obsessive periods about certain types of art. Right now, my love is the portrait. Don't you think portraits add such a warm, personal touch to a room? Even Will and Grace's apartment had that gorgeous portrait by the fireplace!

So where do you find a portrait for your home? I guess an antique shop, or you could buy directly from an artist. In Rob and Susan's new apartment, a watercolor painting by Kim McCarty hangs above their dining table. McCarty seeks to capture "longing and loss," and I think her soft colors and searching gazes do this beautifully.

San Fran Paintings

Photography is blowing up so much right now that painting seems to have been forgotten along the way. So it's exciting to see Kim Cogan getting noticed for his amazing, quiet, evocative paintings of San Francisco. They make me want to visit my gorgeous and talented sister Lucy. (But, these days, what doesn't?)

Shh......they're sleeping

A reader in Germany gave me a tip about the painter Gerd Brunzema, who paints his children while they're sleeping. My reader says: "Very strange. It isn't cute at all. But I like it, cause it looks authentic." I find the series really sweet, though. (What do you think, readers: Creepy or cute?) Either way, they're wonderful.
