My friends and I have gotten really into documentaries lately. Currently topping the list (and fitting in beautifully with typography week) is Helvetica, a new documentary about the life of a typeface (which celebrates its 50th birthday this year) and, more generally, how type affects our lives.
It's amazing how much typography can change the look and feel of a magazine article or restaurant menu or book cover or company logo. The film will be especially interesting since it talks to designers about how they make certain type choices. So cool to hear their reasoning.
Sadly, the New York premiere on April 6th is already sold out. (Can anyone score tix? I will be your best friend and movie partner.) It's also screening at Yale on April 19th.Source URL: http://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/2007/03/helvetica.html
