Get well, Delonte!

Former Celtic and perennial I*Heart*Celtics favorite no matter who he plays for, Delonte West, is undergoing treatment for a "mood disorder." This explains why he has been out for a couple weeks with what was being called a "family matter" or a "personal matter." Whatever the hell a "mood disorder" is, we don't know, but we do wish Delonte the best. Here's what went down:

The 25-year-old candidly discussed his condition following practice on Friday. West said he had been troubled by his behavior toward a high school referee during a scrimmage at the Cavs' training facility on Oct. 3. West took out his frustrations on the official, and said the incident was a warning signal for him to seek treatment to combat an illness that has troubled him for years.

Sounds awkward! This does seem completely out of character for DWest, who is intense but certainly not abusive on the floor. But good on Delonte for catching that he was losing it. It sounded like he was really freaking out...

"I felt a feeling of anger and I just wanted to throw it all away and quit the team," he said. "I needed help."

West is taking medication and has been attending therapy sessions.

"In a sense, you feel like a weaker man because you have to raise your hand and ask for help," West said. "But I found out over the last week that it made me a stronger person. I came back focused, and with the help of some medicine and talking with people on a regular basis, I'm back in good spirits. I'm back here 100 percent."

Good news. Certainly no shame in seeking help. Now, for the "we kind of all saw this coming" part...

West said his mood problems date to his childhood. He has always been able to find peace in the gym, but he has struggled with relationships away from the floor.

You don't say!? Delonte, we tell you this because we love you, but stay away from the women that have more drama than Scalabrine has dippin' dots. Remember when your girlfriend-at-the-time attacked your sister, strangled and bit you, then barricaded herself in a bathroom where she tried to slit her wrists with shattered glass? We do. Our suggestion is to surround yourself with positive people that won't do, um, that. That will speed up your recovery.

Best wishes to Delonte, a role model to redheads everywhere, and one of our favorite NBA people of all time. Get well, Delonte!Source URL: http://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/2008/10/get-well-delonte.html
