GOOD GOD. PIERCE BEATS HAWKS AT BUZZER.

How frickin' good is Paul right now? There was a time not too long ago (cough last year) when people had serious doubt whether Paul was a bonafied superstar. Then came his friends Kevin and Ray, and everyone said, "yeah Pierce is good, but its all because of KG." Then Pierce outplayed Joe Johnson, LeBron, and Kobe in the playoffs and won the MVP and suddenly people are starting to recognize that the truth was pretty frickin' good.

Case in point. Last night's buzzer beater against the Hawks. The UNDEFEATED Hawks. The Celtics came out a little flat, but more notably the Hawks came out on fire. After one, the Celtics had already dug themselves a 10 point deficit. They turned up the juice to close the half and it looked like they were in the drivers seat. Despite the obvious momentum shift at home, the Hawks kept the game too close for comfort. While Ray Ray and Eddie House went 2 for 16 from 3 point land, the Hawks went 13 for 22. The 3 ball kept the Celts from pulling away. After opening up their largest lead of the night (4 points) with 3 minutes left in the game it looked like the Celtics were going to outlast their opponents. The Hawks playing with the swagger of an undefeated team, weren't ready to go so quietly. With a little help from the refs, Joe Johnson took over the game. It felt like May again. Pierce went hoop for hoop with Johnson in the final minute, and the Celtics remained on top until the Hawks hit a 3 on their final possession, putting the Celtics behind for the first time in 5 minutes. With 7 seconds left Pierce took a handoff from Garnett, got Horford on a mismatch and burried a fadeaway jumper in his face with half a second left on the clock. Ball game bitches.

This game was significant for several reasons. The Hawks were undefeated and by taking the Celtics to 7 games in the playoffs, they had sort of a moral advantage. They were the team that had a higher ceiling for growth and low expectations. This game set the record straight. It also reinforced the fact that Pierce is the man, and owns everyone. Now if the Celtics could just stop letting other teams get early double-digit leads, all would be good.Source URL: http://ledger-heath.blogspot.com/2008/11/good-god-pierce-beats-hawks-at-buzzer.html
